The trading sector employs over 11% of the workforce in the region, it is essentially characterized by the predominance of traditional commerce generated by any type of merchant (individual, wholesalers and retailers) exploiting directly  their activities.

The estimated number of players in this sector in the region is divided between 5,927 retailers and 544 wholesalers 5383.

In addition to the magnitude of the weekly souks that constitute a basic structure for trade and a common source of supply in rural and urban areas. In recent years, the region is experiencing the emergence of a modern, making use of new sales techniques, represented by brands such as Mobilia, Bigdil, Kitéa and Yatout. Signs of supermarkets also started in the region, with the opening of a hypermarket in Taza and a supermarket at Al Hoceima.

There are also shopping malls and associates commerce consisting primarily of consumer cooperatives, traders’ cooperatives, retailers and stores.
