G e o g r a p h i c L o c a t i o n The Region of Taza - Al Hoceima-Taounate is one of the sixteen regions created by the edict 246-97-2 published in the Official Gazette August 18, 1997. It comprises four provinces.

This Region covers an area of 23,548 km2, or 3.3% of the total surface area of the Kingdom. The ranking of the four provinces forming the region by area is as follows:
C l i m a t e
The average temperature in the region of Taza-Al Hoceima-Taounate, varies in winter between 2°C and 18°C with a minimum of -4C° on January, in the summer it varies between 18°C 25°C with a maximum of 43°C in August.
Geographical disparities within the region introduce important distinctions in terms of rainfall among which we can be distinguished:
Wetlands: These areas are high at the east of the Middle Atlas (an average of 600 mm/ year) and Rif (800 mm / year).
Medium rainfall areas: These are the areas of the Pre-Rif and northern flank of the region (average 400 mm / year rainfall).
Dry lands: These are the South-Eastern areas of the region, the plains of Middle Moulouya and Guercif (less than 300 mm / year).

The territory of the region of Taza-AlHoceima-TAOUNATE comprises 16 municipalities and 14 circles constituting 118 rural communes. These units are dispatched by province as follows:

According to the general census of population and habitat (GCPH) in 2004, the legal population of the region was 1,812,394 inhabitants, or 6.04% of the national population, recording an annual average increase of 0.5% compared with the year 1994 when that number was 1,719,837. The region of Taza-Al Hoceima-Taounate is characterized by the heavy weight of the rural population that represents 75.8% of the regional population against only 24.2% in urban areas which is an urbanization rate is below average National (55%). Regarding the spatial distribution of the population, it is marked by the important weight of Taounate province which occupies more than 23.71% of the surface area of the region. It comprises 37.13% of the total population of the region according to GCPH 2004 against 30.81% for the province of Taza, 21.82% for Al-Hoceima and 10.21% for the Guercif.
